100% Full Grain, Hand Dyed Leather

Each Sparrowhawk Leather piece is made to order by skilled Leather Artisan, Fiona Ritchie.

Fiona uses time honoured leathercraft techniques, including hand embossing and hand dyeing, allowing Sparrowhawk customers specify the colour and personalization of their piece.

By carefully selecting the leather to cut from the hide, and hand rubbing their dye colour to enhance its individual grain, Fiona crafts a one-off piece, with a unique finish, that is exclusively theirs.

Fiona's leather knowledge, designs and craftsmanship ensures each customer's Sparrowhawk leather piece is fit for purpose, beautiful and stands the test of time.

Our Founder

Fiona Ritchie Leather Artisan & Pilots Wife

Sparrowhawk Leather took flight in 2014 when I made my first Pilot Logbook cover for my Airline pilot husband, Nick. Unable to find a robust, handmade leather cover like the one he’d purchased 30 years earlier, Nick asked that I make covers to fit his current and older logbook.

Since then, I have made over 500 personalised leather logbook covers for pilots in New Zealand, Australia, US, UK and Hong Kong. As Sparrowhawk Leather became known, pilots requested more personalisation and custom made options, as well as Pilot Licence wallets and Men’s wallets. Today Sparrowhawk Leather makes the widest range of Pilot Logbook Covers available in the world, all from my Farm Workshop in Hunua, New Zealand.
