A Very Personal Logbook Cover
Sarah knew her flight instructor partner, Gus, had distinctive tastes.
When he showed interest in Fiona's leatherwork at Warbirds Over Wanaka, Sarah knew a handmade Sparrowhawk pilot logbook cover would be the perfect aviation birthday gift. Sarah's dilemma was Frenchman Gus would prefer to specify his NZCAA logbook cover design.
On return to Auckland, with his birthday only a few days away, Sarah contacted Fiona, who designed and sent a Sparrowhawk Gift Certificate. The Gift Certificate's value would be taken off the cost of the handmade leather CAA logbook cover when Gus commissioned it.
Gus was delighted and contacted Fiona to chose a design and specify the leather colours, while leaving the decision about the stitching thread colour until she had completed the hand dyeing. Gus requested some new features including a pen holder which locked the closed cover, and hand carved pilot's wings with his initials embossed in the centre circle.
The result was a very distinctive logbook cover for Gus, and a much appreciated gift from Sarah.
